Man, this is as cruel as it gets on the golf course.  Phil Mickelson came within a whisker of shooting a 59, but was denied due to this brutal lip-out putt on the final hole.

Phil Mickelson was attempting to become only the sixth golfer to shoot a 59 during a PGA Tour event.  Only five golfers in history have ever pulled off the feat.  During the first round of the 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open on Thursday, Mickelson had to sink a 25-foot putt on the final hole for par and a slice of 59 history.

The putt looked to be center cut, but cruelly lipped out at the last second.  The reaction of Mickelson and his caddy was priceless.  His caddy was literally crawling on the green in disbelief after the putt didn’t drop.  It was still a heck of a round by Mickelson.  He also found a way to make the best out of a cruel moment.  This is the kind of story that gets me even more interested in the sport.  Great stuff.
