Traveling to Chapel Hill to play the No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels was never going to be easy for the UAlbany women's basketball team.

While I don't think anyone expected the Danes to win a game against that opponent -- in that setting -- UAlbany hung tough, losing only 71-56.

The Danes, who have been to the NCAA tournament for three straight seasons, keep looking to challenge themselves in their scheduling.

“We are trying to get better as a team and play at a high level, that’s why we play these games to see where we are,” said UAlbany coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. “It was a good game, I wanted them to fight and see what was inside of them.”
Despite the loss, the Danes had the most influential player on the floor in Shereesha Richards. Richards had 34 points in the loss -- the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. She is now fifth all-time in scoring for UAlbany. She is just a junior.
The 7-6 Danes will open America East play on Jan. 3 at Maine.
