Shaker’s Jeff Hoffman Is An MLB All Star In 2024
What an awesome story it is seeing Shaker high school graduate Jeff Hoffman be selected to his first all star game this season. The Philadelphia reliever is at the peak of his MLB career and he has been a true journeyman thus far. Beginning with a rocky start in Colorado and then to Cincinnati, he has blossomed into a great pitcher. He is the first local pitcher to make the All Star Game in quite some time for us in the Capital Region. Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:
Shaker grad Jeff Hoffman making the Major League Baseball All Star Team for the Philadelphia Phillies is a great story and so well deserved. Hoffman has grinded thru the Majors since 2016 when he made his MLB debut with the Colorado Rockies hoping to someday figure it out. Hoffman figured it out when he landed in Philadelphia and this season his ERA is 1.21 which is incredible. There was a period when he was with Colorado that I wasn't sure he was going to make it but he battled through. Now Hoffman is one of the best relievers in the game and will pitch in the Mid-Summer Classic next week in Arlington Texas.

The Phillies will be a legitimate World Series contender and in fact already are. Manager Rob Thomson trusts Jeff and has put him in several big spots. I expect he will pitch at least one inning during the game. Below is our full interview with Jeff from earlier this week enjoy.
