Should A New York Team Sign Jadeveon Clowney?
Jadeveon Clowney's talent and freak athletic ability are obvious and have been all the way back to his college days at South Carolina. The number one pick of the 2014 NFL draft for the Houston Texans is a Free Agent after spending last season with the Seattle Seahawks. Clowney is recovering from a core injury and there are questions about how badly he wants to win over getting paid. Should the Giants, Jets, or Bills sign the biggest defensive free agent out there or stay away?
Clowney recently spoke to Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston about his offseason training and hungry to play in the NFL.
Let's start with the New York Giants. The need at pass rusher is pretty obvious for Big Blue who decided to place the rarely used unrestricted free agent tender on last year's sack leader Markus Golden. The biggest issue is money here the G-Men have about $15 million (before they sign their draft picks) in cap space available and Clowney wants about $17 million a year. If they truly believe Clowney will earn and their cap experts find a way it would be pretty cool to see Clowney on the Giants.
The Jets are also pretty desperate to add an Edge Rusher but aren't much better off when it comes to cap space. The Jets currently sit around $18 million in free space (pre-draft signings) BUT I would love to see Clowney in a Gregg Williams defense.
The Buffalo Bills are easily the most complete of these three teams, have the most cap space($20 million), most talent, and don't truly need Clowney. Which is why I kinda hope they add him.
