Has the time come that Carmelo Anthony and New York Knicks owner James Dolan part ways? Could Anthony be the next all-star to play with LeBron James?  With the NBA trade deadline being this Thursday, the rumor mill is in full rotation. The biggest hurdle for any trade involving Anthony is his no trade clause. This would have to be waived, for the team to even get involved in a transaction.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, has reported that the Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics have been in contact about a blockbuster trade; including Carmelo Anthony, and Kevin Love.

The trade would likely include Love heading to Boston, while the Knicks would receive a player from the Cavaliers and a 1st round draft pick from Boston.

Anthony has always been very close with LeBron James, and commented on what it would be like to play with a fellow all-star. “I think everybody kind of dreams and hopes that they can play with another great player, another star player. It’s a star player’s league,” Anthony said. “I think that’s what we talk about when we all get together — ‘I want to play with you, I want to play with you.’ Even here different guys say, ‘Come play with me, come play with me.’ So that’s always the mindset. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it don’t. But I think everybody that’s in my situation, that’s in my position, they all want the load off especially the older they get. Because you realize you just can’t do it all by yourself. Everybody knows that.”

Look, if Anthony left the Knicks, you couldn't blame him. He's taken team to the playoffs, and has even won a playoff series. The Knicks organization has done nothing to make Anthony's chances of winning a title any higher than when he was in Denver.

With no draft picks this year, the rise of Kristaps Porzingis, and the room to sign a max free agent in the upcoming summer the move isn't something the Knicks should toss under the rug. Realizing this means the Knicks are in full 76ers rebuild mode may scare fans, but this is the only way to get better in the long run.
