The New York Yankees likely made it home on-time last night. Their jerseys, gloves, bats and hats, however, might have been a little late.

A little over 4 years ago, when I first told my dad that he was going to be a granddaddy to a little boy, I had a hard time holding back tears.  I think he did too.  Moments later he went upstairs to the attic and came down with a little piece of my childhood. He appeared a few minutes later holding an old baseball glove - that he had been storing - from my high school baseball playing days.  A 30

Masahiro Tanaka has shown butterflies in his Firsts so far this season. Getting off to a rough start before settling down in his season and home openers. Let's hope he comes in calm and on point in his first ever start at Fenway Park tonight...

For the most part, Fenway Park is an outdated, overrated rust factory that reeks of urine, stale beer, and staler vomit.

And again the baseball world was centered around Alex Rodriguez.  And again it was Yankees-Red Sox.  And again it was at Fenway Park.

Yankees-Red Sox.  Red Sox-Yankees.  The ultimate baseball rivalry, even if it has lost some luster since Pedro Martinez was asked who his Daddy was.  The two clubs meet this weekend at Fenway Park with the Yanks way behind in the AL East but looking to get back in the Wild Card and Boston trying to add to their division lead over Tampa Bay...

The captain has returned, which is good for the Yanks.  But for baseball, it is even better.  Ratings are down, as is attendance, and the Yanks didn't have a face for the lovers and haters of the team to relate to or for those same people to go to the ballpark and see.  Now they do.

Summer means a lot of things.  But what is better than going to the ballpark and enjoying a game in the sun (we hope) with a cold one and a hot dog?  Not many things top that.  We in The Capital Region are lucky because there are so many great ballparks to go to within a close distance.  Here are my Top 5 based on price, experience and proximity.

The Yanks come fresh off a four-game home sweep of overrated Toronto.  Houston is the worst team in baseball and was overwhelmed at Fenway Park, losing four straight to the Red Sox.  The Yanks and Astros play three in the Bronx.  Here is a series preview:

After being washed out twice in Cleveland after winning two in dominating fashion over the Indians, the Yanks return home for three games against red-hot Baltimore who took two of three from the Red Sox in Boston.  Here is a preview of the weekend series in the Bronx.

Tonight my facebook page is blowing up with Yankee fans who are enjoying the harsh conclusion to a baseball record held by their hated rivals the Boston Red Sox-Oh and the fact that the Sox blew a 5-3 9th inning lead in losing to the Baltimore Orioles 8-5...
