Ten Celebrities Spotted Dominating the 2023 New York City Marathon

On Sunday, November 5, 2023, over 50,000 people from 150 different countries took to the streets of New York City for the running of the 52nd New York City Marathon. The NYC Marathon represents the last of the six World Marathon Majors, which take place in Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York each year.

This year's edition of the race in NYC was extra special, as it turned out to be a historic one on the men's side of the competition.

Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia took home the victory on the men's side this year, setting a course record with a final time of 2:04:58. On the women's side, meanwhile, the winner was Hellen Obiri of Kenya, who defeated the second-place runner by a mere six seconds. She finished with a time of 2:27:23.

If you ran in the race, or, if you found a spot along the road to watch as a spectator, you probably saw these speedsters racing by. You may have also recognized a few other familiar faces, and the team at CBS New York recognized them too. They were able to spot a handful of celebrities who made the 26.2 mile trek this past weekend, and shared a list of those celebs in an article on Monday morning.

We did a bit of research on each of these names, and were able to find the times it took these celebrities to finish the race on Sunday.

There's one name on the list that, from a sports fan perspective, truly blew me away: former NHL defenseman Zdeno Chara. Standing at 6'9", Chara played 1,680 games in the National Hockey League during his career, and retired in September of 2022. Since then, Chara has found a new passion as a marathon runner, and completed both the Boston and NYC Marathon this year.

With that said, this how Chara, as well as nine other celebrities, performed in the 2023 edition of the New York City Marathon.
