This New York ‘Target’ Location is Closing Due to ‘Organized Retail Crime’
You've probably heard of organized crime, but have you ever heard of organized retail crime?
Whether you've heard of it, or not, it's becoming a major problem for Target, one of the largest chain of discount department stores in the world. The Target Corporation is taking drastic measures to ensure that this wave of organized crime stops here, and doesn't expand to other branches of their chain across the country.
We have the latest updates on this situation, as a store in New York has been affected.
Target Closes Nine Stores, Including Stores in New York, Due to Organized Crime
A story from CNN and other outlets shared an update from The Target Corporation, which announced on Wednesday that it will be closing nine store locations spread across four states, all of which have been dealing with rampant theft and organized retail crime.
The company stated that the wave of crime has made it unsafe for staff and customers alike in these stores, which led to the decision to close them altogether.
According to CNBC, these nine locations will be closed by The Target Corporation:
- Harlem (New York): 517 E 117th St
- Seattle University Way (Washington): 4535 University Way NE
- Seattle Ballard (Washington): 1448 NW Market St
- San Francisco (California): SF Folsom & 13th St, 1690 Folsom St
- Oakland (California): Oakland Broadway & 27th, 2650 Broadway
- Pittsburg (California): 4301 Century Blvd
- Portland (Oregon): Portland Galleria, 939 SW Morrison St
- Portland (Oregon): Portland Powell, 3031 SE Powell Blvd
- Portland (Oregon): Portland Hollywood, 4030 NE Halsey St
All of the above stores will officially close on October 21st.
The Target Corporation is not alone, according to CNN, as stores both large and small have reportedly dealt with an increase in shoplifting, largely due to inflation and rising prices.
No store closings have been announced in Upstate New York as of yet, but the situation is very clearly a fluid one.
