Stars have been flocking to the Eastern Conference in the last few weeks. One move has gone under the radar and could have the biggest impact of all.

The Miami Heat are expected to sign veteran point guard Mike Bibby as early as tomorrow.  He has been released by the Washington Wizards and has accepted a buyout, voiding over $6mil that he was going to be paid for next year.  The Heat cut little-used guard Carlos Arroyo in order to clear up roster space for Bibby.

This move could be an absolute difference maker for a Miami Heat team that is searching for anything to put them over the top in an Eastern Conference that is getting better by the day.  With Kendrick Perkins having been traded from Boston to Oklahoma City, all the East has gotten deeper, it has also gotten smaller.  This plays right to the Heat’s advantage, who are lacking a big man.

What the Heat really need is a veteran point guard.  This will free LeBron up from having to bring the ball up-court each possession.  With the ability for him to play a true small forward role, their offense will find some much needed consistency.  Bibby’s 10 years of experience will aid him in transitioning to the role of facilitator on a team with a lot of talent.
