The New York Mets pulled off one of the most improbable deep postseason runs in Major League Baseball history.  It took them until game 161 to clinch a playoff berth and they had big hit after big hit by different guys.  The main catalysts were of course their star players Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso with several massive homeruns.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

The New York Mets had an unexpectedly great season, but how can they take the next step in the off-season and reach the World Series. It will start with going hard after Juan Soto and paying him whatever he wants. After that the Mets need to decide what do with Pete Alonso. Alonso wants to finish his career in Flushing but unlike Soto the Mets won't pay him what he wants or thinks he deserves. I could see Alonso on a new team next season. After Soto and Alonso, there are many other free agents on the roster that GM David Stearns need to make decisions on. What will the starting rotation look like, and will it include Sean Manaea? It will be a very busy off-season for the Mets that's for sure.

Now onto the offseason where there are several contracts to be taken care of including Pete Alonso.  There are no guarantees that he will be a Met next year.  Most of the starting pitching staff is up in the air so big things could be coming for the Mets but congrats to them for a truly awesome season.
