COQUITLAM, B.C. – UAlbany lacrosse players Lyle Thompson and Miles Thompson led the Onondaga Redhawks to the 2014 President’s Cup championship in the Canadian Lacrosse Association on Sunday.
Onondaga, the champions of the Can-Am Lacrosse League, defeated the Six Nations Rivermen 9-7 in the championship game, coming back from down 6-4 in the contest to win.
The President’s Cup is a tournament for box lacrosse in the CLA, combining the seven league champions to face other in round-robin format then a final tournament.

Lyle Thompson earned MVP honors of the tournament plus was a First Team All-Star along with brother Jeremy Thompson.  Lyle Thompson had scored seven goals in a 10-7 semifinal victory over St. Albert and a hat trick in the championship win over Six Nations.

“We played as a team, I give complete credit to our defense, they were huge all tournament,” said Lyle Thompson in a postgame interview with the Onondaga Nation website.
Miles Thompson earned the championship game MVP honors, earning two goals and two assists in the title game, including setting up the final two goals for the team.
Each of the two finished in the top-four in scoring in the tournament, with Lyle Thompson scoring 17 goals and 23 assists, the highest for all players in each category, for first.  Miles Thompson landed fourth with 14 goals and 14 assists.
UAlbany lacrosse alum Ty Thompson suited up for the Kahnawake Mohawks, helping them to the Presdient’s Cup Co-regular season title with Onondaga.  Kahnawake earned fourth place in the President’s Cup, falling to St. Albert in the third place game.
