The following statemetn from UAlbany's athletic department was e-mailed to 104.5 The Team earlier today:

The University at Albany men's and women's basketball programs are on a temporary pause from team activities due to presumptive positive tests among individuals associated with both programs' Tier 1 group.  Further testing and contact tracing are being conducted to determine the length of the pause and whether any additional measures are necessary.

Tier 1 individuals may include, but are not limited to, coaches, student-athletes, team managers and athletic trainers, and are tested three times per week in accordance with NCAA protocols.

Media availability scheduled for Thursday for both the women and the men is cancelled.

Both programs were scheduled to tip off their season's later this month. The men's team was scheduled to tip off their season on December 19th against UMBC. The women's team was scheduled to start their season on Thursday December 10th against Hofstra. There has yet to be an announcement from UAlbany on the status of these games for later this month.

This is not the first time both programs have been placed on pause this year. In early November, both teams were placed on pause because of Tier 1 positive test

Capital Region sports fans continue to wait to see sports return to the area. No professional or college team representing the area has competed since March, one of the longest streches of any city in the country.
