The Class AA Boys’ Basketball playoffs is wide open this season, and Colonie will be a dangerous team on Sunday when they meet top seeded Ballston Spa.
Ten of the top Section II high school football teams in their Classes faced off this weekend for their championships. Surprises are plenty this time of year. Regular season dominators, like undefeated Shaker High School, fell to red hot teams like Shenendehowa in the AA semi-finals. Then there were teams like Ravena that got pounded by Glens Falls 42-0 in the last week of the regular season, only to turn around the next week and see Ravena upset Glens Falls 35-28 in the semis. That's what happens in mid November in high school football. Friday and Saturday teams played for the crowns.
Girls across New York State will now have the opportunity to play football for their school. A pilot program has been created to add another spring sport for girls in our public high schools. They are going to offer a girls' flag football season starting in 2022 selecting a few "Sections" throughout New York state. Section II is included. It will be supported by the region's NFL teams.
After a 55-38 win against CBA in the Class AA semifinals on Thursday night, Shen is heading back to the Class AA final, where they'll meet Green Tech on Tuesday at 7:30 at the Times Union Center (the Shen girls play at 6:00 for the title against Albany High)...
The quarterfinals of the Section II boys' basketball tournament are the best days of the high school sports season, in my opinion.
The Class AA quarters at Hudson Valley CC on Saturday afternoon saw four games, three of which were very competitive...
Another night, another big game for Glens Falls native Jimmer Fredette.
Fredette scored 17 points on Sunday to help the Westchester Knicks to a 94-74 win over the Erie Bayhawks.
Jimmer went 5-12 from the floor and 2-3 from behind the three-point arc...
Congratulations to Shenendehowa Boys' Basketball player Kevin Huerter and Bethlehem Girls' player Jenna Giacone, who have been nominated for the McDonald's All-America Game in March.
The selection show is Jan. 17th, when the list of players is trimmed to the final roster of 24 boys and 24 girls...
Lucious Jordan. That's a name that should be very recognizable to Capital Region basketball fans.
The same Lucious Jordan that came out of Colonie High School. The same Lucious Jordan that helped lead UAlbany to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 2006...
