Mistakes are made in every Super Bowl.  Some are talked about the very next morning, while some get forgotten in the climax or ending of the game.  Here is one mistake that I believe might have cost the Bengals their first Super Bowl win as seen in the Times Union:

If Wide Receiver Tyler Boyd doesn’t drop his first pass of the season on Sunday, the Bengals would have stood a very good chance of winning Super Bowl LVI. Boyd dropped a 3rd down pass that would have been very close to a first down with Cincinnati ahead 20-16 late in the fourth quarter. Instead the Bengals had to punt and the rest is history. Taking nothing away from the Rams, but Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow was sacked a Super Bowl record seven times, and the Bengals still had a chance to win the game. If the Bengals make improving their offensive line a priority in the off-season, Burrow can lead them back to the Super Bowl in 2022.

Below, Michael Johnson Jr. and I discussed this play earlier this morning on Big Board Sports and how it impacted the Bengals chances late in the game.

I strongly disagree with what Michael Kay said regarding the Tyler Boyd drop.  When a caller called his show, Kay said that he didn't think it would've been a first down so it wasn't that big of a deal.  I believe that it totally changed the entire landscape of the game.  Boyd simply took his eyes off of the ball as a defender was approaching him from behind.  If he had caught it, it would've either been a first down or 4th and very short in my eyes.

These mistakes are what cost teams a shot at victory and it was Boyd's drop that cost the Bengals the Super Bowl.  I do feel for him though as he is a terrific and reliable receiver.  The Rams got lucky that Johnny Hekker's botched snap on an extra point early in the first half didn't come back to bite them.  It is very hard to win in the National Football League, let alone the Super Bowl.  Congratulations to the Los Angeles Rams on their Super Bowl LVI title.
