Will the Real Mets Team Please Stand Up?

The New York Mets might be the most puzzling team of the 2019 Major League Baseball season. And it can all be explained, or at least illustrated, in the last week alone. There has been a summit, circulating speculation about the manager's job security and, most recently, sweeps. Two of them in a week.

After Mets COO Jeff Wilpon called for a meeting with manager Mickey Callaway and general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, the Mets seemed to respond winning back to back games against the Marlins. That was followed by five losses in six games though including a three-game sweep at the hands of the Marlins who owned baseball's worst record at the time.

But hang on, not all hope was lost. A four-game winning streak proceeded that five-game losing streak and the rollercoaster ride was creating for some optimistic highs and queasy lows. As of May 25, the Mets were 25-26 and 5.5 games out of first place in the National League East.

The see-saw continues with the Detroit Tigers in town this weekend. A 9-8 loss Friday night was answered with a 13th inning walk-off victory on Saturday. Home runs have been hit by Rajai Davis, Carlos Gomez and Tomas Nido in the last week.

So, who are the real Mets? The team that has suffered inexplicable stretches of losing, the team that has pleasantly surprised with some wins or a team somewhere in between?
