Albany High to Break Ground on New Stadium Today
That's new Albany High School football coach Joey DiPiazza. And he's right...
Today, Albany will break ground on its brand new athletic facility that will be located on campus. The facility will include a new turf football field, bleachers, a press box, and will include the track that is currently at Albany High. Groundbreaking begins at 1:30 today and several prominent Albany figures will be there, including mayor Kathy Sheehan.
DiPiazza's tweet is a basic outline of what the field will look like. The field will be located adjacent to the school.
This stadium will allow the Falcons to play outdoor contests at home for the first time in city/school history. Football, lacrosse, and soccer will all play at the new facility.
As for this football season? The Falcons hope to get use out of the field this fall. But until the field is ready, Albany will play it's home games at UAlbany. The "home" opener for the Falcons is Sept. 5 against Columbia.
