The Montreal Alouettes have signed University of Albany star defensive end/linebacker Eli Mencer. Mencer was a massive part of the Great Danes team that made it to the second round of the 2019 FCS playoffs. Mencer joins Albany Empire star wide receiver Malachi Jones on the Alouettes, making Montreal the most Albany team in the Canadian Football League.

Mencer joined the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL Draft, Sadly Mencer was waived in late August after being injured and to make room on the roster to bring back wide receiver Paul Richardson. Mencer had a few NFL tryouts but has now found his pro football home north of the border in Montreal.

Mencer will join former Albany Empire star wide receiver Malachi Jones who signed with the Allouettes in December of 2019 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic has yet to make his CFL debut. With playmakers on both sides of the ball being former standout players right here in Albany I think I finally have a reason to travel north of the border again (of course when the border is open again).

The Montreal Allouettes 2021 regular season is scheduled to start on Friday, June 11th in Ottawa and their home opener on Thursday, June 17th at the Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Molson Stadium is less than a four-hour drive from the Capital Region. Pretty much the same distance as a trip to Bills Stadium or Foxboro. WHO'S COMING WITH ME?!
