According to ESPN's Buster Olney a source states the Yankees have begun contract talks to retain Brian Cashman as their General Manager. Cashman has been the Yankees GM for 17 year and even though they are coming off a season in which they missed the play offs in back to back seasons for the first time since 1992 and 1993 Cashman will be staying in New York.

Cashman's contract is up the end of this month. With a new extension he will stay with Manager Joe Girardi who just completed the first year of a four year contract.
