Capital Region products Jeff Hoffman (Shaker) and Matt Gage (Broadalbin-Perth/Siena) were both recently promoted to AA in their respective systems. On Thursday, both made their second starts, and both impressed.

Hoffman, the No. 9 pick in the 2014 draft by the Blue Jays, tossed 5.1 scoreless innings for the New Hampshire FisherCats. He allowed no runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out five.

Hoffman threw 83 pitches, 52 for strikes. For the season he is 3-3 with a 2.93 ERA across High-A and AA.

Gage got the win last night for the Richmond Flying Squirrels of the San Francisco Giants system. Gage went six innings last night against the Erie SeaWolves, surrendering one earned run. He struck out four and walked one.

Gage was a 10th round pick of the Giants last year out Siena. He helped lead the Saints to the NCAA tournament in 2014. He matched wits in the tournament with TCU ace Brandon Finnegan, who pitched for the Royals in the World Series.
