Nothing is better than seeing local 518 baseball products who came through Section II succeed in the major leagues.  There is currently no bigger and better example of that than Jeff Hoffman with the Philadelphia Phillies.  The late inning reliever has nearly a sub one overall ERA which is very impressive.  He is a member of a very good and strong team who could realistically win the World Series.  He has so many good pitches including a high velocity fastball and a filthy slider.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

Shaker grad Jeff Hoffman is having a phenomenal season thus far in Philadelphia on a team that could win the World Series. Hoffman has bounced around his MLB career, but he's found the perfect fit with the Phillies and has developed into a great relief pitcher. His ERA is just over 1.00 and has nasty stuff that strikes out a lot of batters. It's been fun to watch his journey a now most likely his final stop.

The Phillies clearly trust Hoffman and especially in big spots late in games.  He has a very successful track record especially recently.  Their manager Rob Thomson has nothing but great things to say about him and how reliable he is and how great of a personality he has within the clubhouse and locker room.  We will continue to cover him closely this season as we have all season long both on WNYT NewsChannel 13 and 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio.
