Is This The Biggest Summer Yet At Saratoga Racecourse?
This summer at Saratoga has been awesome and better than advertised. It has also been probably way better than NYRA even expected. In large part you can thank the Belmont Stakes being at Saratoga in early June because you are seeing even more new fans come in to the Spa. The betting is at an all time high as well which should come as no surprise and NYRA Bets downloads have increased overall. Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:
Fierceness showed up in a big way on Saturday for trainer Todd Pletcher to win the Jim Dandy Stakes the major prep race for the Travers August 24th but it's doubtful he will run in the Mid-Summer Derby. Fierceness needs more rest between races and without the Kentucky Derby favorite the Travers shapes up as a showdown between Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch and the sensational filly Thorpedo Anna for trainer Ken McPeek. Sierra Leone for Chad Brown might run too but he still can't seem to figure it out. We still have a few more weeks before the field is finalized but the addition of Thorpedo Anna will push the popularity of the Travers over the top.

The Whitney Stakes comes up this Saturday which is yet another exciting traditional stakes race. Everything is pointing toward the Travers Stakes on Saturday August 24th. I still love Thorpedo Anna to win the Travers and I will be heading up in my party bus for a whole day of fun activities, betting, and most of all awesome horse racing.
