While many parts of the Capital Region didn't get slammed with snow like further south in New York State, there are still flight delays in and out of Albany International Airport due to the ongoing winter storm.

New York City is expected to get up to 24 inches of snow, as well as parts of New Jersey, Connecticut and areas in Massachusetts. With many major airports in those areas there are already a number of cancellations and delays. Albany International Airport is warning travelers in advance.

Making sure that you're checking the airport's website as well as your airlines app is going to be critical if you had travel plans today. Mostly people headed down the east coast could see those flights disrupted.

It appears that the amount of snow falling in the Northeast isn't the only problem that is affecting air travel. There are also very high winds that are causing significant problems as well.

The NYS Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services posted that not only is heavy snow an issue at this time, but gusting winds. Some of those winds can be going up to 60 mph.

Heavy snow and winds up to 60 mph, creating blizzard-like conditions, will continue through this afternoon for the Mid-Hudson, NYC, and Long Island.

 

 

This is going to be one of those storms that is going to take a few days to clean up from in the affected areas. So make sure to be patient.
