Masahiro Tanaka Placed on 15-Day DL
Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka will be placed on the 15-day DL, according to General Manager Brian Cashman, during Tuesday night's game vs. the Rays.
Cashman indicated that it's tendinitis in the wrist with a mild forearm strain, which has been a possible concern after Tanaka had a torn UCL last season.
While the strength in his elbow looks the same, Cashman still said that this "could be" a precursor to Tommy John surgery.
The Yankees also indicated that while Tanaka is being put on the 15-day DL, the team is expecting him to be back within a month, at the best case scenario.
Ironically, the injury news came down during "Masahiro Tanaka Night" at Yankee Stadium, in which fans were receiving Tanaka bobble-head souvenirs at the gates.
Before the game, Girardi noted that Chase Whitley would be the starting pitcher for Tuesday's game. The media believed that this would be the beginning of a six-man rotation for the Yankees, which Girardi had spoken about before the season. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
