It was a rubber-match game and anything can happen in rubber-match games.  Hell, anything can happen in baseball, right John Sterling?  Including a very good pitching performance.  Or, a very good pitching performance and an excellent one.

Phil Hughes and Derek Holland (3-7) dazzled in the Bronx in Texas' 2-0 shutout win of the Yankees.  Hughes gave up two earned runs over eight innings pitched with five strikeouts and just five hits allowed.  Derek Holland (6-4) was even better, going the distance for a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.

Jurickson Profar had a home run for Texas.  Ichiro and Austin Romine had the only hits for New York.

The Yanks head to Baltimore for a weekend series against the Oriolese.  Texas hosts Cincinnati for three.
