When a team is struggling like the New York Yankees have been, you need someone to step up with a Herculean effort at times to right the ship. An extracted tooth may have been just the thing to set Aaron Boone's Bronx Bombers sailing in a good direction.

A mere 12 hours after receiving an emergency root canal and after being scratched by the manager as the starting pitcher, Domingo German took the mound and provided 3 innings of relief in the middle of the Yankees 5-4 victory over Seattle. It was New York's third straight victory, enough to officially declare a winning streak.

Yup, German was not great. He gave up 3 runs on a three run dinger in the 6th but that happens. He showed his manager, his teammates and the fans that nothing was going to stop him from contributing to keep these winning ways going. The Yankees need that. They needed consistency and 3 wins in a row shows consistency.

Right-hand pitcher Luis Cessa provided his own relief heroics, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Aaron Judge belted homer number 20. Giancarlo Stanton and Luke Voit each had two hits and Gleyber Torres knocked in a pair. Those factors are combinations for success for the Yankees.

Yesterday on The Drive with Charlie & Dan, we spoke to MLB analytics expert, Derek Carty of THE BAT and EV Analytics, and he said that the numbers still show the Yankees to be in the playoffs when the season is all said and done. The All Star break is next week. The Yankees just made up 2 quick games on the Red Sox in the standings, whom they play 8 times over the next few weeks and sit 8.5 behind. However, the Bombers are only 3.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

The Yankees have 77 games left. The organization is committed to winning. Aaron Boone has to go deep into the playoffs and may have to ultimately win to keep his job. Gerrit Cole is a solid pitcher that can anchor that staff for a playoff run, even without Spyder Tac and the Brian Cashman is smart enough to find a few pieces to solidify this team down the stretch.

It may only be 3 games but the New York Yankees are officially HOT!
