Lauren Smith, Sarah Cheney, Julia Lennon and Maddie Devine each tallied two goals to lead the Blue Bison.

Shaker will now play the winner of the Penfield (Section 5)-Lancaster (Section 6) game on Friday at SUNY Cortland.

In Class B, Fox Lane (Section I) ripped Queensbury, 17-7. Sammy Jo Tracy led Fox Lane with five goals and an assist.

Fot Queensbury, Mary Rahal and Casey White had two goals apiece.

In Class C, Albany Academy got beat 18-5 by Rye (Section I). Emma Brinkman delivered six goals and an assist on the Rye squad.

Emma Malicki scored three goals for Albany Academy.

 

Boys lacrosse

It was Matt Sexton's day as Niskayuna rolled past Mamaroneck, 22-3, in a Class A regional final.

Sextion had seven goals and five assists. Lucas Maloney helped with five goals and an assist.

In Class B, Yorktown (Section I) toppled Queensbury, 18-7. Queensbury trailed 7-0 after the first period and couldn't come back.

Brad Willows paced Queensbury with two goals. It also marked the final game for Queensbury coach Keith Ellement who is retiring.

In Class C, Bronxville (Section I) knocked off Glens Falls, 15-2.

Connor Toich and Carl Sopczyk scored for the Indians.

Jack Grass put together three goals and two assists to lead Bronxville.

 

Track and field

The Section II Track and Field State Qualifier was held at Knox Field (Johnstown) on Thursday and Friday.

In Division I, Albany's Natasia Brown captured three events (100, 12.30, 200, 25.56 and ran a leg on the 400 relay team, 49.08).

Emma Willard's Molly Shapiro also enjoyed an exceptional day winning the 100 (12.75), triple jump (39-0), and helping the 400 relay prevail (51.02) in Division II.

Her teammate, Keishorea Armstrong advances in the 200 (26.13), high jump (5-3) and 400 relay (51.02).

Kyle Plante of Colonie (Division I) excelled in the 400 (53.38), a Section II record, and part of the 1,600 relay (3:49.90), another sectional record.

Emma Torncello of Shaker (Division I) prevailed in 100 hurdles (15.31) and long jump (16-11 1/4).

In the boys competition, Division II's Austin Lane of Greenwich starred in the 1,600 (4:16.19) and 3,200 (9:21.39) and Gavin Clark-Gartner of Ichabod Crane won the 110 hurdles (15.48) and 400 hurdles (56.35).

Nina Van Erk, executive director of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (based in Latham), resigned to head the Section 8 (Nassau County) schools.

Van Erk was the subject of a story recently about her compensation package with the NYSPHSAA.

Her new job will pay her about $150,000 plus privileges. She will oversee 60 high schools and help the section comply with sports regulations and policies.
