The UAlbany women’s basketball team capped off a 28-4 season with a 24-point win over Stony Brook in the America East championship game. The win, of course, earned them an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The Danes earned a 15-seed and will play second-seeded West Virginia on March 23 at 3:00.

The Danes went 15-1 in conference play during the regular season. They’ve dominated the AE over the past two-plus seasons. They had 38 consecutive conference wins until the March 1 loss to Stony Brook.

All of that is only worth a 15-seed?

Last season the Danes went 27-4 (16-0 in America East play). They won the conference tournament. They were given the same 15-seed and fell by just five points to the University of North Carolina, one of the top programs in the country.

You’d think that a team that had almost the exact same season as it did a year ago, and showed that well in the 2013 tournament – would have been given a little more respect for its body of work.

Guess not.
