Meyer has become arguably the most successful coach in Ohio State football history. He has an 82-9 record in eight seasons with the team, including a 2014 national championship and a perfect 7-0 record against rival Michigan. Meyer joined the Buckeye program following a short retirement due to health concerns. Before his tenure in Columbus, Meyer coached the Florida Gators where he won two national championships.

Despite Meyer's impressive record, the 2018 season has been clouded by allegations of domestic violence involving former Buckeye assistant coach Zach Smith. Meyer was suspended for the first three games of the season for not "upholding the values of the University"
