Was This The Best Season In UAlbany Women’s Lacrosse History?
The UAlbany women's lacrosse team had one of their best seasons in program history as they defeated #12 Virginia this past Friday and then almost took down the host #5 Denver in their next game. Head coach Katie Thomson has done a tremendous job with rebuilding the culture and making the UAlbany women an elite program for years to come. We had Coach Thomson on last week a few times and she was confident and as were her players and it really showed during the tournament. Below is my quick take on this from The Times Union:
No better way to showcase your program then winning on the national stage in the NCAA tournament. That's exactly what the UA Women's lacrosse team did in Denver by upsetting Virginia and nearly doing the same to undefeated Denver. Head coach Katie Thomson plays a challenging non-conference schedule, and her team was not intimidated by playing against teams from a higher conference. Thomson has built a great program at UAlbany, and this won't be the last time you are seeing her teams win NCAA tournament games.

MJ and I discussed the awesome season for the UA women yesterday morning right here on Big Board Sports. Below is our full conversation on this.
There is obviously some serious optimism heading into next season for the Great Danes as they bring some players back and Coach Thomson is very good at recruiting and players will want to come to UAlbany, more now than ever after this great tournament run and historic season for their program.
