What Does Barry Melrose Think Of This Year’s NY Rangers Team?
It is so early into the National Hockey League season but we have a lot of teams of regional interest as everyone knows. We have the Boston Bruins, the New Jersey Devils, the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers. The Rangers have the biggest following here in the Capital Region by far and away. They have a first year new head coach in Peter Laviolette who is an experienced veteran with a lot of wins in the NHL throughout his successful career. The Rangers have the talent but fell short to the Devils in Game 7 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last year. It will be interesting to see how Laviolette transitions in taking over for Gerard Gallant and builds the culture his way and gets the Rangers further in the Stanley Cup playoffs this season.
MJ and I were joined by our good friend and Glens Falls native Barry Melrose earlier this afternoon right here on Big Board Sports. Barry recently stepped away from ESPN and is currently battling Parkinson's. We wish him nothing but the best in his fight as he is a great man and friend. Below is our full interview with him including his thoughts on the Rangers.
The Rangers should be a playoff team but have appeared inconsistent so far to start the season. They have a lot of talent but the East is very strong and it will be a long regular season for them. I still think they will make the playoffs but might not make it very far.
