What Letter Grade Would You Give To UAlbany and Siena’s Seasons?
This weekend marked the end of both the UAlbany Great Danes and Siena Saints men's basketball seasons. UAlbany lost in the quarterfinals to the defending conference tournament champions UMBC 62-54. In the MAAC tournament, the Siena Saints won in their quarterfinal matchup against Rider but lost in the semifinals of the tournament to Iona 73-57.
UAlbany Great Danes 2018-2019 season letter grade: B-
This year's coaching staff was dealt a tough hand before the season even started with the loss of transfers Joe Cremo and David Nicholas. Despite the losses, UAlbany was able to have five freshmen work their ways into the team's starting line up. The Great Danes finished the season at 12-20 but remarkably thirteen of the twenty losses were by single digits. A win in the conference tournament or a few more wins in the regular season could have resulted in a better season. The biggest positive for the program is they are finding some players who could continue to help in the program's future seasons.
Siena Saints 2018-2019 season letter grade: B
The Saints hired Coach Jamion Christian in May 2018. That timeline is about six to eight weeks later than when most coaching hires happen in. The Saints recruiting process may have been hindered by this but none the less the Saints were able to surpass preseason expectations. The Saints were able to have a winning record and win a conference game. The team may have benefited from a weak MAAC but in a similar fashion to the Great Danes above, the program has found some exciting underclassmen for the future.
