The New York Giants hunt for a new defensive coordinator has begun following the firing of Perry Fewell.

Reports came out that the New York Giants are said to be  interested in five big candidates. Washington Redskins DB coach Raheem Morris, who recently was the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 38-year-old Morris, is viewed as a bright defensive mind.

The candidate that fans are already screaming for is ex-defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Some have called Spags the greatest hire Tom Coughlin has ever had. With the head coach going into his possible final year in football, calling the Ravens senior defensive assistant may just be his final lifeline.

The other two big candidates come from the same team. The Atlanta Falcons have totally cleaned house. Which leaves defensive minded Mike Nolan the defensive coordinator, and ex-head coach Mike Smith (Image above). These two are hard to consider when you think about how their team's biggest struggles came from the defensive side of the ball.

The dark horse who looks to be on the come up in the football world is Pepper Johnson. Defensive line coach for the Buffalo Bills,  and former Giants linebacker and two-time Super Bowl champion. Johnson absolutely deserves a shot, but this is not the stop for him. Tom Coughlin's NFL career is on the line, and he won't want to put it in the hands of a rookie coordinator.
