If you are a UAlbany basketball fan, you should also be a fan of Purdue coach Matt Painter.

Painter is supporting Niemann-Pick Type C research in the Infiniti Coaches’ Challenge. The Coaches’ Challenge features four collegiate coaches (Painter, Michigan’s John Beilein, Ohio State's Thad Matta and Brad Underwood of Stephen F. Austin), all vying for a $100,000 donation to a cause of their choice.

Niemann-Pick Type C is the same disease that affects Honsinger, the local teen that has continued to be a fixture at UAlbany sporting events, particularly men's basketball and men's lacrosse.

Painter is supporting the Smith Family Break Thru Fund. He was the winner a year ago. From Painter's Purdue University bio:

Lastly, over the last four years, Painter has raised over $150,000 for the Smith Family BreaKThru Fund as part of the Coaches Charity Challenge. After three runner-up finishes in the national competition, Painter finally took home the title in the 2015 competition.
