Each week on Levack and Goz we offer up a simple question: WHY?!  At 4pm, the toughest questions to answer in the world of sports are presented, and the crew at 1045 The Team does their best to provide you answers."Wednesday Why?" is brought to you by the Integrative Sleep Center. Goz returns to this segment after being off last week and this time he is joined alongside "The Closer" Brian Mariano.

This week's edition of Wednesday Why included the discussion of why the New York Mets hired ESPN baseball analyst Jessica Mendoza to their front office. ESPN released these statement earlier in the week on the hiring

There are numerous examples across networks of these type of arrangements where commentators work closely with teams, and we will be fully transparent about Jessica’s relationship with the Mets. We have complete faith in her ability as a leading MLB voice for ESPN.

For me, the hiring makes sense for the Mets. If you believe you have a person in your franchise to help improve the team and find talent,  you make that hire. As for ESPN,  it will be interesting to see how the conflict of interest is viewed by the audience. The company may not find it an issue, but viewers to Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts might.
