Unfortunately for fight fans, one of the most highly anticipated fights in UFC history may not happen this July. UFC 189 is set for July 11th and the main event between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor may be postponed. Aldo, suffered a fractured rib during a mid week sparring session less than seven days ago according to a report by a Brazilian outlet. UFC President Dana White responded to the report on Twitter with this tweet

While Dana White took more of an Aaron Rodgers approach to the injury concern, no official change has yet to be made to the fight card. The Aldo-McGregor fight is not just one of the most highly anticapted fights of the season, but arguably one of the most anticapted in the history of the UFC. Aldo, has been undefeated as the UFC featherweight champion since 2010. Even before his time as UFC champion, Aldo has not lost a mixed martial arts fight since back in 2005. McGregor is viewed by most fight fans as the next star of the promotion. In January 2015, UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver was the most-watched MMA event ever on FOX Sports 1, and was also the most-watched MMA event on cable television since 2009. The popularity of both fighters plus the prefight trash talk has led to huge hype around the fight. Below is what McGregor did in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland in front of a rowdy crowd.

Whether it be Aldo or someone taking his place in the main event, UFC 189 will still be held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 11th.
