It was funny. When I first saw that Zach Wilson, the rookie Captain quarterback for the New York Jets, the first person I thought of is Derek Jeter. My thought, "I can only hope that he could be half of Jeter." I never thought of the correlation again, until today, when I read Ian O'Connor's article today in the New York Post, "Jets’ Zach Wilson has the tools to pave his way to greatness."

Yesterday, the Jets named their #1 draft in 2021 one of their team captains. I wasn't the only one who continued to appreciate the similarities between a couple of #2"s. O'Connor wrote, "it was hard to escape the fact that New York’s latest No. 2, Wilson, was announced as a captain on the day that New York’s ultimate No. 2 and ultimate upper-case Captain, Derek Jeter, delivered his Hall of Fame speech in Cooperstown. And it’s OK that Wilson’s honor was made official in a conference room in Florham Park, N.J.; Jeter’s was made official in a conference room in Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park, of all places, because George Steinbrenner suddenly wanted to light a fire under his 2003 team."

The comparisons for Wilson with Jeter may not go beyond each being named captain and each donning the same #2. However, Zach Wilson's New York story begins this Sunday when he takes on his predecessor, Sam Darnold. Will Wilson go down the same road as Darnold, tough to say. Many, including me, feel that the new Jets captain has a huge advantage with the new coaching staff. Darnold had the issue of Adam Gase. Jets fans are all rooting for their #2.
