Although the UAlbany men's basketball team opened up its season with a loss on Friday night against Kentucky (78-65), there were plenty of positives to take away.

The Danes got 18 points from Peter Hooley and 17 from Evan Singletary to prove the point that UAlbany has an elite backcourt at the mid-major level.

Furthermore, the Danes held Kentucky to just 78 points, and that's a team with enough athletes that they could easily run up 100 on any given night.

Furthermore, UAlbany got a solid contribution from its two Capital Region natives, Greig Stire and Joe Cremo.

Stire, the CBA product, scored nine points in the post which is a huge contribution. He's not known as a scorer - or at least he hasn't been - but if he can provide offense down there, that helps offset the loss of Sam Rowley who graduated.

Scotia graduate Joe Cremo got his first collegiate action and scored six points and contributed three rebounds.

Danes' head coach Will Brown joined me on Capital Region Sports Saturday to speak about their contributions.
