The Yankees are taking on the Tampa Bay Rays tonight at the stadium. The Rays and the Bombers are engrossed in what seems to be another yearly battle for first place in the East. When you turn on the TV and look next to Ray’s manager, Kevin Cash, you often see Tampa’s Bench Coach, Matt Quatraro.

Quatraro was a guest on The Drive with Charlie and Dan today. Matt grew up and went to Bethlehem High School and is in their Hall of Fame. After his minor-league career he coached for a little while at UAlbany prior to his successful major league coaching career with the Rays, the Indians and now the Rays again.

Year after year, Matt would come “home” to Bethlehem and work with the local baseball teams not for money. He was just being a good guy. Quatraro will be a major league manager in the next few years. His name is constantly mentioned in big league managerial searches. There are only 30 of those jobs in the world. Pretty cool representative of the 518.

518 talent continues over on TNT tonight. As the Knicks got set to tip off Game 5 of their first round playoff match up, down 3 games to 2, desperately figuring a way to try to save their season, on the opposite side of the floor, Shenendehowa’s Kevin Huerter was preparing to try to help lead his Atlanta Hawks to the next round of the NBA playoffs.

Huerter is one of the rising stars in the NBA. He has another Shen grad in Atlanta who wasn’t pitching tonight but deserves to be mentioned and that is Ian Anderson. Ian is 4-2 with a 3.27 ERA as of tonight for the Atlanta Braves. Oh, he too is one of MLB’s rising stars. Hopefully, Quatraro, Huerter and Anderson will be names you will continue to hear for many years to come and we can all continue to root for 518 success across major league sports.
