Shaker graduate Jeff Hoffman is really rolling now in AA. Despite being traded by the Blue Jays to the Rockies in the Troy Tulowitzki-Jose Reyes deal, the prime prospect is locked in.

He went five innings last night for the New Britain Rock Cats against the Trenton Thunder, surrendering just one run on three hits. He walked none and struck out two.

We've known all along that Hoffman has great stuff. That's why he was taken No. 9 in the draft last year out of East Carolina. Check out this filthy slider that earned him a strikeout last night:

Hoffman's ERA is down to 2.84 ERA across A and AA ball. His record sits at 3-3. His control has been premium, as he has just 20 walks in 82.1 innings.

Hoffman joins fellow Shaker graduate Tommy Kahnle as Capital Region products in the Rockies organization.

Hoffman's on the fast track to the majors, and he and Kahnle could both in the majors together next season.

UPDATED, 9:45 a.m.: We have spoken to Chris Onorato of WNYT Sports, who was there last night.

WNYT will have a full interview with Hoffman on Sunday.
