A big summer continued this weekend for Shen graduate Kevin Huerter, who helped lead the Team USA U-18 national team to the gold medal at the FIBA America Championships in Chile.

The US team took down Canada in the final (99-84) after disposing of Brazil in the semifinals by a score of 88-48.

Huerter made valuable contributions to the national team, scoring 14 points in a win over Chile. He did not score in the gold medal game, but played 11 minutes. He was 0-4 from the floor.

The tournament should serve as a great jumpstart to Huerter's college career at Maryland. Not only did he gain the experience of a lifetime in travel to another country, he got to play some great international competition, practice against some great domestic competition, and he also got to acclimate himself to Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon, who was on the staff of Team USA.

Huerter led Shen to a Class AA state title in his junior year.
