"Asked on playing with Miles: “It’s always been a discussion, playing with him my whole life, and then talking about where you are going to be,” said Lyle Thompson. “We both wanted to play professionally, and why not together?  We played in college together, our whole life, we’ve played together, why not pro?”

With his selection, Lyle Thompson is the first person since 2011 and second person overall to be the first overall pick in each the NLL Entry Draft and the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.

Thompson is the first-ever first overall NLL pick from the University at Albany, surpassing Merrick Thomson, the 2nd overall pick to the Philadelphia Wings in 2007, as the highest pick ever from UAlbany.  The two-time Tewaaraton Trophy winner and only-ever back-to-back men’s recipient graduated as one of the top collegiate lacrosse players in NCAA history with a Division I record 400 points off 175 goals and 225 assists.  He holds the top two single season scoring records in Division I history with 128 points as a junior and 121 as a senior.  He was named to the All-World Team in the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship while with the Iroquois Nationals.

The Draft was held at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario in the Greater Toronto Area.  Thompson joins UAlbany alumni Mike Ammann, Steve Ammann, Dave Brock, Jordan Levine, Jon Newhouse, Brett Queener, Frank Resetarits, Joe Resetarits, Corey Small, Miles Thompson, Ty Thompson, Merrick Thomson and Mike Woods as players that have been on an NLL roster.

The Georgia Swarm’s first game will be on Friday, January 1st on the road against the Colorado Mammoth at 9:30 p.m."
