The Albany Empire left the Times Union Center field as champions of the 32nd AFL Arena Bowl on August 11th 2019 for what looked like the last time. We now know that the National Arena League is bringing indoor football back to the Times Union Center and the Albany team (Which I'm hoping will be called the Empire) just got one step closer to putting that championship team back together. Head Coach Rob Keefe will be joined by Assistant Head Coach Les Moss putting back together two of the key pieces that brought a championship to Albany with the Empire.

The Albany Empire left some big shoes to fill for whatever Arena Football team calls the Times Union Center home next (even if it's the Albany Empire) but a familiar face might make that a lot easier. Head Coach of the Albany Empire Rob Keefe is returning to the Capital Region and will coach the Albany Arena team from the National Arena League as early as next year.

The Albany Empire are off to 5 - 0 start looking to win number six this Saturday at 3:30 pm against the Washington Valor at the Times Union Center. Head Coach Rob Keefe is known to be the most intense coach in the Arena Football League and to be honest he might be the most intense person in the league. So I was intrigued last week when instead of asking DE Joe Sykes to fall on a loose football to end the game Coach Keefe was backpedaling and leading Sykes into the End zone.

The Albany Empire took the Capital Region and the Arena Football League by storm last season. Albany went from not having an AFL team to entering the playoffs as the top seed in what felt like no time at all. It felt quick for us but meanwhile Head Coach Rob Keefe and the Albany Empire staff were putting together the team we all came to love. What does Coach Keefe have planned for year two to help the Empire finish their #UnfinishedBusiness?

The announcement has been made, the Albany Arena Football Team is the Empire and the first game will be April 14th. Now there's a few simple things to do before the Empire take the field. Like get the uniforms, come up with a game plan and oh yeah we need a team! Step one will be open tryouts this Saturday!

Tuesday night the new Albany Arena Football team welcomed fans to pick out their season seats and meet the owners and coaching staff of our new team. No one seems more excited or more prepared to become part of the Albany sports scene than new head coach Rob Keefe.
