Can Coach Carm And Siena Rebound Fast After A Rough MAAC Weekend?
It was a rough weekend for Siena this past weekend as they suffered two conference losses on the road at Manhattan and at home vs Niagara. They now have dropped to third overall in the MAAC conference standings behind both Rider and Iona. They are missing a key piece however in star sophomore point guard Javian McCollum and they need him back sooner rather than later. Below is quick take on this from the Times Union:
The Siena men’s basketball team has already proven they can win without Javian McCollum on the floor, but it’ not something head coach Carmen Maciariello wants to get used to. McCollum has back issues and didn’t play at all in Sunday’s loss to Niagara, and even though he played at Manhattan you could tell he wasn’t at 100 percent. McCollum is one of the best players in the MAAC and when healthy he’s the best player on Siena’s team. It’s better to error on the side of caution right now until he’s ready to return, because you will need him to make a run at the MAAC Championship. The way Siena is constructed, the point guard position is the biggest piece to the puzzle, and without McCollum things just don’t run as smoothly as they should, at least not over the course of time.

MJ and I discussed Siena and McCollum's absence earlier this morning right here on Big Board Sports. Below is our full conversation on this.
Next up for Coach Carm and Siena is on the road at Mount Saint Mary's on Friday where they will look to get back on track with another MAAC win.
