Can The UAlbany Women Repeat As America East Champions In 2023?
The UAlbany women's basketball team under Colleen Mullen is off to an impressive 6-0 start in America East conference play. They visit the Binghamton Bearcats tonight and look to improve to a glossy 7-0 start. They are the defending America East champions for a reason and they return several key players including: Ellen Hahne, Helene Haegerstrand, Kayla Cooper who are all three in double figures in points per game currently. Maine will be a threat to the Great Danes as they were the team that lost to them in the AE championship game last March. Below is my quick take on this from the Times Union:
The UAlbany women are the best team in the America East Conference, and that’s not a surprise. After a tough non-conference schedule the Great Danes are picking up right where they left off last season when they won the AE and went to the NCAA Tournament. UAlbany has the same team as last year and their healthy right now, which makes all the difference. Head Coach Colleen Mullen has built a Championship pedigree at UAlbany, and this year’s team is right on schedule.
MJ and I discussed the UAlbany women's team earlier this morning right here on Big Board Sports. We both agree that Colleen Mullen has done an awesome job with the program and has built it up to be so successful. Below is our full conversation on this.
I really do think that the Great Danes are the best team in the America East and will repeat as champions. They have a terrific head coach and the experience to get the job done again and go to the NCAA Tournament.
