It is safe to say the Albany Devils playoff hopes are dimming by the game and day. Back from a terrible 6 game road trip that saw them lose the last 5, the Devils returned to home ice at the Times Union Center and were capped by the St. John's Ice Caps 4-2.

The 2,200 plus customers watched the Ice Caps take a 1-1 tie after the 1st period, expand it it 4-1 nearly midway through the 3rd period and send the Devils to their 6th consecutive loss.

The Devils had to feel good about snapping the skid with St.John's coming to town sporting a 27-33-1-4 record. They don't feel good about win number 28 for the opponent.

The teams traded goals in the 1st period. Joe Whitney opened the scoring at 4:29 of the 1st with his 23rd goal of the year. That was to be the only time scoreboard was friendly. The Ice Caps tied it on a goal by Jason Jaffray.

Jeff Frazee started in net for Albany. he was beaten for a pair of scores by Aaron Gagnon. Eric O'Dell notched his 25 of the year to cap the Ice Caps fun.

Not to be left out is the final goal of the night by Albany's Brandon Burlon. For Burlon it was his 1st goal of the year and 2nd of his career.

The Devils have a HUGE game next up as they host the Hershey Bears, a critical 4 point game as they say against a conference foe they are battling with for a playoff spot in the East. Faceoff Friday night at the TUC at 7:05
