Did Mitch McConnell REALLY Advocate for Mets, Yankees to Leave New York?

This is not a political plea, and this is not a championing of blue or red, liberal or conservative, or anything else.

This is simply a ridiculous sports story, and sometimes, those write themselves.

Election Day in New York Was Yesterday

In case you missed it, election day was yesterday in the state of New York. Locally, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin were re-elected to their positions, and a few newcomers, like Colonie's Peter Crummey, have been elected to their positions for the first time.

As my esteemed colleague Charlie Voelker wrote about earlier today, Eric Adams has been elected Mayor of New York City, and had a few things to say about COVID-19 mandates in the city and the state.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Spoke Last Night

That sentence will send shivers down the spine of half of the people reading this.

McConnell spoke in front of Congress last night, speaking about the state elections, and encouraging national-level politicians to vote one way or another on certain issues. He referenced the state of New York, and how two provisions on New Yorkers' ballots called for differently-structured elections, and according to him, both provisions were not getting the votes needed to pass.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, he brought up the New York Yankees and New York Mets.

"Surely Major League Baseball can't let them stay in New York...after this!"

Hey, leave our baseball teams ALONE!

Look, I know what was going on here. After poking around a bit more, it became clear that Mr. McConnell was referencing Atlanta, Georgia, and how Major League Baseball had pulled the All-Star Game from Atlanta due to contentious voting issues.

As of *checks clock* roughly 9:30PM, I haven't seen a for-sale sign on either Yankee Stadium or Citi Field, so it appears that we have narrowly escaped a tragic relocation.
