Nobody resembled the New York Yankees better than their captain Derek Jeter.  Yankee fans were treated with 20 great years with Jeter and saw him five World Series titles.  The new ESPN 30 for 30 documentary The Captain premiered episode one last night at the conclusion of the Home Run Derby.  It is a seven part documentary series as episode two will air Thursday at 9 p.m. on ESPN.  I was impressed with the first episode but nothing really surprised me.  I knew a lot about Derek Jeter going into this series but I am looking forward to future episodes.

I did appreciate the fact that director Randy Wilkins does a nice job showing the human side of Derek Jeter in the interviews.  One thing is for sure about Jeter is that he never gave the media a headline.  He gave the clear cut "right" answers and never had a bad thing to say.  But at the same time, you never really felt like you knew Derek Jeter.  He came off as very honest and open in the first episode which I thought was awesome.  I remember covering him when he was an Albany Colonie Yankee in the early 90s and nobody knew who he was really.  The first episode chronicles his initial minor league struggles being drafted straight out of high school at 18 years old.

MJ and Joey seemed to also really enjoy the first episode of The Captain as they are big Yankee fans and also big Yankee homers.  We discussed this earlier on Big Board Sports live from The Bunker in Clifton Park.  Below is our full conversation.

I can't wait for the six other episodes of The Captain on ESPN and I recommend that everyone go watch it if they can as it will be highly worth it.
