Mets Pelfrey Out for Season, Will Need Tommy John Surgery
It was announced on Tuesday that New York Mets Pitcher Mike Pelfrey was placed on the disabled list with Elbow Inflamation. It turns out it was much worse as an MRI revealed a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in Pelfrey's right elbow. He will need Tommy John Surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2012 season.
This year had started well for Pelfrey. Although he didn't have any wins in his 3 starts, he didn't suffer any losses either pitching with a 2.29 ERA and 13 Strikeouts. Right-hander Chris Schwinden will take over Pelfrey's rotation spot against the Colorado Rockies.
Pelfrey will visit Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday.
