What was a promising season in soccer for Siena came crashing to a quick, sudden, and painful end on Thursday evening as the Siena Saints lost in extra time to Niagara 2-1 in the MAAC Tournament Semifinals.

The Saints had high hopes for the conference tournament but that came to a sudden stop as Niagara scored 15 seconds into the extra time to end the game and the season. The Saints get eliminated in the MAAC semifinals.

Niagara's Darren Cooper jumped right out in the extra time period, dashed down the right side and lofting a goal inside the right post and beating Saints goalie Damian Liesemann to end the season for Siena and sending the Purple Eagles to the MAAC title game on Saturday. Liesemann stopped five shots by Niagara in the contest. MAAC goalie of the year Brett Petricek made four saves for the win.

Siena's season ends at 10-7. Niagara lost only one game all year, that being to the Saints. Matt Hemsley scored the only goal for Siena and his only goal of the season right after Niagara took a 1-0 lead. Hemsley's goal came just 25 seconds after Niagara's lone regulation score.
