RODGER'S QUICK TAKE: Once the sting of losing their Major League Baseball affiliation wears off, the ValleyCats will quickly realize that Independent baseball can and will work in the Capital Region. It already has, when the Albany Colonie Diamond Dogs had a successful run from 1996-2002 at Heritage Park in Colonie. With less minor league teams starting in 2021, there will be plenty of talent available to choose from, so putting a quality product on the field won’t be a problem. And the rest takes care of itself. Nobody knows how to get fans into Joe Bruno Stadium for a great family night out than the ValleyCats. They’ve been doing it for 20 years. No reason why that won’t continue. We all get too hung up on MLB affiliation.
